So my mother, Deloris Pickens, took a creative writing workshop back in 2003. She has chronicled her life, growing up in the 20's-30's. I talked her into converting it into blog, and it is some interesting reading. Eventually in the story, she'll get into the sewing machine business, her and my father created. But until that portion of the story comes out, come on over and take a taste of my mom's life at:

Enjoy!

Where is your mom's blog set? It mentions Geneva- Alabama?
Bought a 221 at a garage sale- loving it- my aunt still had her singer of the same vintage, larger model, that she still used to perfection while I was growing up in the 70s. Now my teen daughter is using it and loving it. Thank you for your useful blog. Jeannie Weller Cooper Panama City Beach, FL www.southsideatlantamemories.typepad.com
I just found your blog and I'm so excited that I did!
I have a friend that has a featherweight and it is giving her some problems. I looked at it and cannot figure out the problem. When you try and stitch with it the upper thread comes out of the needle and the machine moves along without stitching at all. Sometimes when you are trying to catch the bobbin thread it takes a few passes to catch it.
Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.
Can't wait to keep up with this great blog!
