Wow! I followed from yoga with Gailee over here. I have a singer featherweight in my closet that my grandmother gave me. I have sucessfully sown tree skirts, placemats and tableclothes with it. Love it. It's easier to use than my new machine.
apologies for my spelling errors!

Your website is fantastic! I just found a 1952 Featherweight at Goodwill for $12.99! Complete with case, attachments, power cord and manual. I would rate it a 9 on a scale of 10...it has 3 small chips on the paint on the balance wheel. Your information on adjusting the tension on the bobbin case corrected loose stitching while reversing. Oiled and lubed the machine and it runs like a champ!

What makes a machine a featherweight? Is a model 66 a featherweight, or is just models 221 and 222? Do all featheweights have the fold up extension? Am just starting the process of purchasing a fewatherweight so all suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

What makes a machine a featherweight? It is the small sewing machine that fits into the small rectangular box. It is about 11/12 lbs in weight. Has a foldup bed.Is a model 66 a featherweight? No, but it is one other Singer Machine that is considered to be the "big" sister to the featherweightJust models 221 and 222?
Yes, but there is a new plastic Singer Sewing Machine that is called the Featherweight, but traditionalists, consider the metal machines the real dealDo all featheweights have the fold up extension? Yes, but I cannot for the life of me remember what goes on with the free arm featherweightRead, read read!!!

Just purchased my first FW and was reviewing your site for info concerning oiling and lubbing the machine. My sewing machine guy said to consider using "Tri-Flow" on oil points rather than the singer sewing machine oil but I am not sure I buy into this. The tri-flow might just be a souped up WD40and therefore not do the job I need it to do. Any comments??

Hi,
Mom uses the Singer oil to oil the machines. (And I use it too, plus she uses it too, when she visits and does a little maintainance on my sewing machines.)

Can't give you any other advise, other than email my mom at
deepickens@gmail.com for additional info!

HI
this site is a great place for FW Info. I was wonder if any one has any thoughts on replacing the motor on my FW with on of the alpha sew replica motors. I'm afraid mine has hit the end of it's life. it over heats in less than 5 minutes, smokes and has no power. it hardly moves even with the belt off. though it does move freely when you spin it with your fingers I've tried new brushes and even cleaned the the communicator and armature inside. i can't seem to find any reviews on the new alphasew motors. i would be thankful for your thoughts
thanks AJ

Give my mother, Deloris Pickens a call at 580 765-6125 for specific questions on the featherweight!

Now, in Quilter's Home October/November 2009 Issue, was a direct mention of this website for more information about the featherweight! Woo Hoo!

Hello again! I joined your twitter, it says I am on here on the left so I guess it worked! I also posted on fb. I tried to join your group but the join button is not working!
I will send you an email from there or a poke, so you will see who I am.

I did all these extras except for the blog, as I do not have a blog.

Just got a featherweight today! After bringing my "baby" home and setting her up, I googled for "singer featherweight blogs" and found your site. You can bet I'll be here a lot, as I read up on things I should know about my treasure. Thanks for taking the time to post all this info!

We discovered a "Featherlight" model 222 machine in my in-laws estate and we need a manual to operate it properly. The machine has Featherlight on it. No where can we find it says Singer except that we know it was purchased at a Singer store. It does not look like a Singer Featherweight; it was made in China; it has an adhesive vendor sticker from a Singer store at which it was purchased. The store was located at the address appearing on the sticker in the mid 50's to early 60's. Can anyone give us information about the name "Featherlight" model 222 machine? betsygrimes@yahoo.com

I have no comment, other than I so appreciate this site and those data you offer.....i am in desperate need of feedback for a problem re my precious and, in most ways perfect 211!

A while back, I fractured the presserfoot lever. Have been using the nub since to raise aned lower the foot....very sad and hard on the nails too!

I bought an original replacement lever from a dealer in FL....I am very, very handy, but can not drive out the pin holding the lever! He suggested I buy Blaster to loosten. I did, but to no avail! Trying to knock it out thru the hole n the distal end is challenging cause, while I made good tool, there is no decent room for me to get leverage using a hammer at that end.

Tried to knock it out via the visible end after removing the plate and obsuring part.....again, to no avail.

Can anyone pls offer any tips input so I might accomplish this task?

I thank you, and my precious puppy (circa 1953) thanks you even more.

I have tons of pics should anyone want any.

I am hoping you can answer 2 questions for me. I just purchased a Featherweight 221 and there are 2 problems. The first is that it has a musty smell. I tried putting come cinnamon in the case, but it hasn't put much of a dent in the odor. Do you have any suggestions? The second is that the precious owner put tape on it. Some is on the gold What can I use to get the sticky residue off that will not damage the surface?

Thanks for any help you can give me!
